Dong Fang means Eastern direction and Hong means red in Chinese. The red implies Communism in China. This tea used to be a tribute tea to the Chairman Mao Zedong.
The tea tree presented to the Chairman Mao Zedong died in recent year, and this product is made from the old tea tree grown from that mother tree.
This tea is baked with traditional charcoal fire twice. Although this tea is double fire, it has a flavor that is intermediate between a strong scent and a clean scent. It gives a sweet floral note reminiscent of gardenia, magnolia and lilies.
2022 was a year with a lot of rain in most of the tea-producing regions, but surprisingly there was a little rain before the harvest period for Phoenix Dong Fang Hong, and I was surprised to find that it had an unexpectedly nice aroma, with multi-layer of floral note and intense top note.
