Ji Long Kan: A Hidden Gem of Phoenix Mountain
Ji Long Kan, a revered tea tree nestled in the Phoenix Mountain range, remains a rarity in overseas tea markets. Yet, the original mother tree still stands tall to this day—a living testament to its enduring legacy. According to local legend, the tree earned its name from its unusual shape, said to resemble a traditional chicken coop, giving it the name “Ji Long Kan” (literally, “Chicken Cage”).

Harvested in 2023, this tea underwent three rounds of traditional charcoal roasting over the course of a year. Each roasting session lasted several hours, followed by months of rest to allow the tea to reabsorb moisture and develop depth.
This patient, artisanal process yields a tea with remarkable character. Its aroma is rich and layered, evoking sweet fruit notes of dried apricots, longan and red jujubes. At times, its smooth, lingering flavor even calls to mind the warmth and complexity of fine whiskey.
