Japanese Traditional Tea Caddy — 総皮茶筒
Handcrafted in Japan using traditional techniques, this 総皮茶筒 (Sōkawa Chazutsu) is made entirely with natural tree bark, fully hand-crafted by skilled master. The natural material gives each piece its own subtle color, texture and character.
One of the defining features of a traditional Japanese tea caddy is its precisely fitted inner lid. The lid is carefully crafted to fit closely, helping to protect the tea from moisture, air, light and unwanted odors. This makes it particularly well suited for storing fine teas, including Sencha, Gyokuro and Hojicha, and any other teas.
Beyond its practical function, the natural bark develops a deeper and more refined appearance with use. Each tea caddy is therefore not only a tea-storage container, but also a piece of Japanese craftsmanship that can be enjoyed for many years.
Because natural bark is used and each piece is individually crafted, subtle differences in colour, grain and texture are to be expected. These natural variations make every tea caddy unique.
