Wild Tea Traditionally Consumed by Ethnic Minorities

Wild tea refers to naturally grown tea that thrives in the mountains of Yunnan Province without human cultivation. It is, quite literally, "wild tea."

In Yunnan, tea classified as "wild tea" is usually not Camellia sinensis but rather Camellia taliensis. In addition to Camellia taliensis, we also handle wild tea from Camellia assamica dehongensis. These species are distinct from Camellia sinensis, yet for the ethnic minorities living in the mountainous regions of Yunnan, they have long been consumed as tea. For hundreds of years, they have ventured into the mountains each spring to harvest wild tea, pan-fry it at home, and enjoy it as part of their daily lives.

Until about 20 years ago, wild tea received little attention. However, it gained rapid recognition in the market about 10 to 15 years ago, and in recent years, soaring demand has made it increasingly difficult to obtain.
